New Life For Old Spectra - recycling towing lines

HAWSER AND TOWING LINE RECYCLING

Tug lines and hawsers fall into a similar albeit more dangerous category as fishing lines and nets with regards to environmental risk.

Fishing lines and nets that are improperly disposed of can entangle and kill wildlife as well as cause boat damage. Since the line is not biodegradable it can remain in the environment for many years. Tug lines are synthetic as well as up too 10,000 times larger than nets and fishing line. Thus creating a larger risk to the environment.

Wildlife may suffer from loss of limbs from line entanglement and even death from gangrenous infection, or ingestion of the line as it slowly breaks down.

By creating a program of donating, recycling and repurposing discarded hawser and towlines thousands of yards of line is kept from being put into the ocean.
